What's on your desk?

Went back to work yesterday after 3 weeks! And felt good to be back there. I looked around at all the familiar things in there, and realized something. Most of the things in there are gifts from friends and family :) Here are pictures of things exactly as I saw them when I had that thought...

The plant used to belong to my best friend. We used to work together, and she gave me the plant when she left. Till date this is the only plant that has been put into my care that is still thriving! And so is our friendship!

The little statue of Amba Mata is from my cousin.

The bracelet (don't know why its there!) is from the best friend's mom.

The cell phone is from the dear hubby.

Even the sugar packs were given to me! My friends at work brought me coffee and some extra sugar yesterday, since I was still limping a little bit from my knee surgery.

The coffee mug was part of the welcome kit from my previous company.

Gosh! Even the calendar is not my own! The cafeteria gave it!

And in this one...

The "chair" my phone is sitting on is from my jeeju. I think I just took it from him.

The pen which controls the little monkey in his car is from my sister

The frame with my nieces and nephew was from my previous company for completing my first year with them. The picture was sent by my sister.

The frame with my parents was a birthday gift from my niece, and the picture sent by my sister.

And if you look closely behind the pic of my parents, there is a small laughing buddha sitting in a candle holder. That was from my close friend.

FINALLY...some things that I brought myself...
The candle holder that the Budhha is sitting in
The car...but this one also holds memories of my best friend from childhood. I had bought it from her town when I visited her after around 10 years!
The cell phone cover...I made it :) But this one is new. Until a couple days ago, it had a cover given by yet another friend!

I like my love-filled office :)

I love this post!
It made me look all around me to see if I have any gifts from friends and family ...
Yes I do :)
Photographs brought more than just the gifts, also your life to life or us :)
Get well fast , it is great to see friends (the sugar) and family(noodles) being so considerate and pampering you and being so kind to you!

My desks usually have paper and more paper and presentations and documents :)

don't have a permanent seat to have the luxury of keeping things !!!

sigh !!!

lovely desk Kashmira... glad you are back to work... assuming you are feeling better... take good care of the knee :)

@IHM, isn't it great to be surrounded by such memories?

And my colleagues really do pamper me, they even washed my coffee mug (had been sitting there for 3 weeks, so you can imagine!) ..just so I would not have to walk! And the hubby, he's the best :) Do share pics of your office if u can!

@ria, isn't it? I felt so nice just looking at everything.

@pri, thanks dear.

@D, you should definitely do it! I need to upgrade my pics though, they are quite old!

@prashant, go green, print less :)
I think you should carry at least a couple framed pictures of those closest to you to all your temporary desks. They are very portable!

And me and the knee are doing good...am driving and all too. Thanks :)

LOL @ going green... I do take care trust me... but the kind of work that I do needs prints... can't do much about it !!!

and for some reason at my client office, there is a culture of giving prints for every presentation to each participant... Phew !!! I try to avoid it as much as possible, but that's the culture here ! I must have taken as many prints in the last 1 year that I have taken in the last 2 months here !!!

pictures... hmm.. yea... I work out of two locations here in Milwaukee and that too one is a guest desk, which means I do not know where I will get to sit... having anything which attaches to a desk is very tough... last thing I would like to lose is a picture of someone :) so I rather have them at home instead of work !!!

@RenuDi, oh you should see my bedside table, it is overflowing with junk! That picture frame sounds just as lovely as you are, Di :) Am glad your DIL is just as nice as you! Not all MIL's and DIL's are as nice as you two!

but i think today people are like that only:), I call her Bahuraani in love, and she says..pl. dont call me bahu:(, and i always say...bahu se bhi utna pyaar hota ha, jaroori nahi ki beti se hi ho, and see when my SON is my lifeline:) then his lifeline has to be my life too:)

wowwwww... really lucky u r!! !:)

so many things and all have a memory, what best it can be!! !:)

amazing, but we cant see the phone, pic plz!! :D

and hows u doing now??? no updates...

aneri_masi said...

@RenuDi, you guys are still an exception...not everyone treats daughter and DIL the same. And most feel threatened by the DIL ... as if the DIL was taking the MIL's spot in the son's life. Ridiculous, isn't it? I wish everyone was like you! Or at least more people were like you!

@ceedy, decorate half a cabin! I had some thing or the other on my side of the desk even when I was sharing cubes.

@ankur, lucky? I am sure you have a thousand gifts lying around as well, its just a matter of putting them up, isn't it? knee is good, I am walking, driving, everything. Am off the pain meds too, and Phy therapy is also going well.

ceedy said...

Actually I have an entire room for myself....but still there is paper all over :)

aneri_masi said...

@ceedy, clear out some wall space then. Expand your work from building (architecture) to decorating (interiors :)

Kashmira, it all comes with confidence, I have so much of confidence in my SON, I know that he loves me too much, even before his marriage I always said that even if at some point of time in his life he is not able to do something for me, i will know that he has some propblem, but I can never doubt his love for me. Biggest victory for a man lies in giving this same confidence to his mother and wife both. And mothers must always remember that everybody has their own designated place in life...the way a wife can take a mother's place, so is true with, and life can go on without mother, but cant without wife.
sorry for digressing from the post.

aneri_masi said...

@RenuDi, that such a good explanation of things! And digressions are ok, they always lead to interesting conversations :)
